Belva Martha East Christiansen, "Belvie baby", beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 89, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at Stoney Brooke Assisted Living.
She was born October 23, 1922 in West Warren, Utah to Herbert and Ethel Susannah Barrow East. The family lived in West Warren and Ogden. Mom and dad lived in Tooele, Ogden and Roy.
Belva attended Weber County schools and graduated from Weber High School Class of 1940. In her youth, she worked picking fruit in the Willard Orchards. She later worked at the Royal Canning Factory. During World War II, she worked at the Ogden Arsenal and Utah General Depot. On March 16, 1946, Belva married Alan R. Christiansen, "Big Al", in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on February 13, 1958.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as Primary and Sunday School Teacher.
Mom loved to plant flowers and her yard was always perfectly manicured. She loved taking family vacations to Yellowstone and California. Belva could play the keyboard by ear and had a beautiful singing voice. She was a scrapbooker before scrapbooking was cool. Mom especially loved being with her family.
Belva is survived by a son, Rick A. (Paulette) Christiansen, two daughters, Carlene "Chris" (John) Wright, Lana (Thane) Ritter, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her eternal partner, Alan, her parents, three brothers, Carl, Ron, and Max, two sisters, Wanda and Talma, her father and mother-in-law and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Vickie and the staff at Stoney Brooke and Leslie and the staff at Vista Care Hospice for their gentle care and concern.
