Barbara Jean Velasquez, 95, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 13th, at Hidden Valley. She was born May 24, 1930 in Diamondville, Wyoming to Peter Paul and Yolanda Moro Lenzi.
On January 30, 1954, Barbara married Jose Velasquez, with whom she had 3 sons, Joseph, Peter Paul, Danny, and one daughter, Debbie. Though, they later divorced, their family legacy grew to include 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Barbara was fortunate enough to find her dear companion, Ralph Delgado, and their loving relationship brought many years of joy.
She graduated from Ogden High School and became a nurse at St. Benedicts Hospital. She loved telling stories about her nursing days, but her proudest moments of that era were playing on the Ogden City Softball league for St. Benedicts with her twin sister. She was the catcher and her sister was the pitcher. And she was so proud they beat the Shamrocks.
After her nursing career, she dedicated over 30 years to the IRS as a Tax Technician, she truly loved her work and the people she worked with.
She was a devoted mom and grandma; she loved her family so much and always made sure they had what they needed. She was always willing to help in any way she could. Her love for her kids and grandkids shone brightest on the sidelines, she never missed a sporting event and was their loudest cheerleader. Everyone knew when Barbara was there and she rarely missed a game. She also loved watching Baseball and Football with her family and would always comment if she felt a wrong call was made.
Barbara cherished the simple joys of life, she cherished the time spent with her twin sister, especially their Saturday traditions of shopping together, getting their hair and nails done, and searching for the perfect decorations to make their homes beautiful. She had impeccable style, she never left the house without being all dolled up, a reflection of her elegance and pride in how she presented herself. She took great pride in her yard and home, always keeping both spotless and full of beauty. Her smile lit up the room and her infectious laugh was unforgettable.
She faced many medical challenges throughout her later years with courage, grace, and an unshakable will to live, inspiring all who knew her with her strength and perseverance. She did not give up fighting till the very end.
Barbara spent the last two years of her life at Hidden Valley Assisted living center. She was known there for her sass and Risque remarks, the aids loved her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter that will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
