Barbara F. Skidmore (89) born in Ogden, UT, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in the loving care of her children after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in Ogden, UT to Daisy Pearl Sparks and C.H. Flinders. She was the youngest of 16 siblings. She graduated from Ogden High School and Henegar’s Business College. Upon graduation, she worked at Hill Air Force Base, where she met her husband, David C. Skidmore. After starting their family, Barbara was able to raise their children before returning to the work-force, where she retired from Weber School District.
Barbara’s life was centered on service. She loved her time volunteering with the PTA. She served as Secretary and President of North Park Elementary PTA, PTA President of Sand Ridge Jr. High and Roy High Schools and Roy Council PTA President as well as being elected to be the Region II PTA Director. Additionally, Barbara served other organizations within her community. Barbara was instrumental in helping and encouraging numerous young men, from Cub Scouts and on through the scouting program to get their Eagle Scout.
She showed her love to others in various ways. She was the first to take in a meal to a friend or neighbor, she spent many hours helping students with their reading at the local elementary. Barbara was known for her walking. She walked miles and miles throughout Roy, Riverdale and other places. As a way of giving back, she would not only walk, but she would pick up trash to make the world a little bit better.
Barbara was an active member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held callings in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and Sunday School. She started her Missionary Service at the Church Distribution Center followed by proselytizing in the London South Mission and was called as a Ward Missionary for the North Park Ward.
She also loved being an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple. In her spare time, you could always find Barbara working in her yard or playing a mean game of Scrabble with her family. Barbara would drop everything to be with her family and grandchildren. No time or distance could keep her away. She loved them fiercely.
Barbara is survived by her three children, Suzanne (Gary) Manning, Shawna (Kaan) Gregersen and Steven (Robyn) Skidmore, nine grandchildren, Mitchell (Rachelle), Kaylen (Daniel), Jennifer (Benjamin), Jill (Ian), Sara (Trevor), Scott (Amy), Veronica (Zachary), Tyler (Nikki), Dalton (Naivasha) and 16 great-grandchildren. Emery, Edward, Haven, Conner, Paisley, Eleanor, Kiera, Ridley, Caden, Peter, Henry, Luca, Axton, Avery, Tucker and Finn. Family and church were the things that Barbara held most dear.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Skidmore, her parents and siblings.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Zachary Campbell for his compassionate care throughout her life and her nurse, Macady, who took excellent care of Barbara.
