Barbara Reed
August 1944 ~ March 12, 2016
WEST POINT – Barbara Bateman Reed, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2016 following a valiant 14-year battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was born at the old Dee Hospital in August 1944, to Percy G. and Maevon Bateman. She was sealed to her best friend and eternal soul mate, Roy D. Reed in June of 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was truly Roy’s inspiration, his strength, and his compass. Even after she started the long downward Alzheimer’s spiral and lost her ability to verbally communicate, she continued to teach patience, understanding, Christ-like love and charity to everyone that came into her life. She and Roy were blessed with two wonderful children and six lively, entertaining grandchildren.
Barbara enjoyed making delicate birthday cards and hand-delivered them to family, friends, and each of the church sisters on their birthdays. She also made and gave away beautiful floral arrangements to anyone that needed “something extra” for their home. She was an amazing wife and mother, hard-working, righteous and had a very deep, very personal knowledge and love of the Savior. Barbara will be greatly missed by those who remain behind.
She is survived by her husband Roy, daughter Cheryl, son John, their families and all six grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandra, Debbie, and Darlene, and her four brothers, Douglas, David, Daren, and Barry, and all their families. Barbie was preceded in death by her parents.
Our family wants to give a special thanks to The Family Tree Assisted Living facility of West Point for the outstanding care, love and patience their entire staff gave to Barbie during the last seven years of her life. We also thank the wonderful, caring staff of Hospice for Utah – their love and support during her final months has been exceptional!
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield Utah North Stake Center, 151 N. 1000 W. Friends may gather with the family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3300 W. 5600 S., and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment at West Point City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would like those that are able to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah.
