Arlene Miller

Arlene Ivy Walker Miller died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the age of 84 - anxiously waiting to return to her Heavenly Home after many wonderful years on this earth.

Mother was born on September 17, 1931 in Clifton, Idaho to George LeRoy Walker and Ellen Elizabeth Hess Walker. She grew up in a family of four brothers and four sisters.

Mother married her sweetheart Grant A. Miller on August 23, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had six children, Kathleen (Steven Hoellein), Ellen (Lonnie Jorgensen), Bradley (Lauryn), Bryan, Timothy (Karen), and James (Angela). Mother was a loving grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and her beloved Eudora.

Mother was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served her church and community in many different capacities including Hooper Stake Relief Society President and as a teacher in a variety of positions and auxiliaries. She also served for 12 years on the LDS Social Services Outreach Program and was a dedicated member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Mother served three LDS missions with her devoted husband and eternal companion. They served in the Atlanta Georgia Temple, Washington D.C. Temple, and Edinburgh Scotland Genealogy Records Mission. They were also snow birds for a number of years, serving in the St. George Temple during the winter months.

Service projects were always in the works at mother’s home. She was great at journaling and documenting many years of her life, leaving behind wonderful books of her and Grants’ adventures and countless other events. Her family was especially blessed to receive copies of her life story and important pages to add each year on their birthdays. Mother loved to read, quilt, paint rocks and work in her garden. She worked at Gibby floral for a time designing beautiful floral arrangements for all occasions. Playing games (and insisting she never cheated), doing jig saw and crossword puzzles, and making the most amazing maple syrup and apricot jam were her specialty.

Mother is survived by her sweet husband and best friend Grant, her six children and their families, and remaining siblings Mary Kirkbride, Dick and Zetta Walker, Vance and Louise Walker, and Sharon and Keith Thompson.

Mother’s legacy will live on in her many teachings and the exemplary life she led. As her family, we will strive to continue sharing that legacy of love, loyalty, strength, honesty and integrity in all we do.

We would like to express our appreciation to the staff at Chancellor Gardens for their special care and kindness to our mother and father.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Roy 9th Ward Chapel, 4250 South 2175 West. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
