Antonio "Tony" Jose Velasquez

Antonio “Tony” Jose Velasquez After a long hard battle, Tony surrendered to our Lord, on December 11, 2012. He was known as Antonio to his family, Tony to his friends and T.J. by his loved ones. He had a love at an early age of the outdoors given to him by his father and mother. In his youth, Tony spent many hours in the forest surrounding La Plata County Colorado. He enjoyed outings with his family that were always surrounded by his beloved mountains. He left home and joined the U.S. Navy where he spent a dedicated 20 year career as a ship fitter by trade and a hull technician by heart. Tony spent his career working as a welder on the Navy’s nuclear power plants and submarines. Tony’s second chapter began in 1992, when he remarried and found his beloved soulmate Robin. During their travels together he discovered more lifelong friends while tackling journeys side by side. After completing Robin’s retirement, they decided to remain in Utah and he became an active grandfather and companion. Tony worked as an aircraft mechanic and teacher at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden until he was stricken with a disabling disease. Tony is survived by his wife, Robin Ann Velasquez; daughters, Daniella (Adam) Hamby, Maria (Adam) DuVall, Kat (Shawn) Sparrow, and Heather (Chad) Newman; 8 grandchildren, Ayden T. Sparrow, Corbin J. Sparrow, Talon D. Sparrow, Andrew L. Hartey, Rylan J. Newman, Thomas J. Hamby, Izzabella Hamby and Hannah A. DuVall; brothers, Arnold Velasquez, Mike Velasquez, Joe Velasquez and Jim Velasquez and sisters, Cecilia Robbins and Vida Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Della Velasquez and infant grandson, Tony Ray Hartey, Jr. Funeral services will be held in Ignacio, Colorado at a later date. Friends may visit with family on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
