Annette Read Griffeth

March 18, 1944 — October 23, 2022

Annette Read Griffeth, 78, passed away the morning of October 23, 2022, in Saint George, Utah where she had resided with her husband VerNon for the past 10 years.

Annette was born on March 18, 1944, to Boyd and Ruth Read in Ogden, Utah. She attended Ben Lomond High School, graduating in 1962, then received a Bachelor of Science degree from Weber State College.

Later Annette attended Brigham Young University where she earned a Master of Education degree. It was there she met her husband to be, VerNon Griffeth. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1969. Together, they became the proud parents of three wonderful children.

Annette’s great love of life centered on faith, family, and service. Her many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided her the opportunity to serve the needs of others. As an elementary school teacher, she loved teaching children. Annette especially found joy in being with her family and seeing them develop the qualities of character that meant so much to her.

Annette and VerNon both retired in 2010, and two years later moved from their home of 34 years in Layton, Utah, to Saint George, Utah. The next and final ten years of her life were spent immersed in her family and church service. She spent joyful summers at Bear Lake making memories with family and friends. Annette also fulfilled her lifelong dream of serving a two-year full-time mission for the Church with her husband. These “retirement” years allowed her to see more of her children and grandchildren, celebrating with them the important milestones and joys of their lives.

Annette is survived by her husband VerNon, son Gary (Belinda), Pleasant View, UT; daughter, Jana Fotheringham (David), Layton, Utah; son Greg (Erin), Layton, UT; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings Carolyn White, Daron Read and Alene Palmer (LeRoy).

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother David, and brother-in-law Bob White.

We want to thank the extraordinary doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Saint George Regional Hospital. Our family will be eternally grateful that Annette was cared for by such competent and caring physicians.
