Annette Leavitt, age 79 returned to her Heavenly Father in the early morning of January 14, 2026. She was born on December 14, 1946 in Kaysville, Utah to Melba and Melvin Monson. Annette was a beloved mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and went on to get her temple recommend and received her endowment in the Brigham City temple.
Annette was a kind-hearted woman who cared about everyone. She didn't just care, she inspired others around her to be caring as well. She attended school at Kaysville Elementary, Kaysville Jr. High and went on to graduate high school from Davis High. After high school, Annette enrolled and went on to graduate from Weber State University. She got her teaching degree and taught elementary school for many years at Burton Elementary in Kaysville, Utah. Her ambition was to teach children and help them prepare for their future. She strived to have every one of her children succeed. She also worked as a teacher's aide for three different teachers and would substitute when one of them was out.
While she was teaching, she went on a blind date with a man named Nathan Hawkes. They started dating and went on to get married. Annette loved children but had a difficult time having them. She went to several different doctors and was finally able to see Dr. William Egbert at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He was able to help her and in 1977 she finally was able to have a baby. She was so grateful and was able to have another baby in 1979 and again in 1982.
One of Annette's other loves was Girl Scouts. She earned several merit badges, and she won a Girl Scout Campership where she was able to attend Girl Scout camp for a week. She was most proud of winning a merit badge for selling the most girl scout cookies.
Annette had so many things she loved doing. She took Scottish dance lessons with her cousin Judy Sparks; she also joined the Utah Bagpipe Band and was in many parades and she took up tap dancing and ballet lessons. She loved to make people smile and when she did it was contagious.
During the latter part of her life, Annette worked for several different places in order to help take care of her family. She worked at Mervyn's, Ben Franklin Crafts, and Deseret Industries. Unfortunately, health problems would ultimately become too overwhelming.
Annette loved reading books. She was a huge fan of Danielle Steele and a sucker for love stories. She read about so many places that she wanted to go. She always wanted to go to Disneyland and was finally able to go with her kids, parents, and her niece and nephew in the late 1980's. This really sparked her love for anything to do with Disney. She had Disney books, movies, dolls, magnets, key chains, and any just about anything else you can imagine.
Annette also loved to travel. In 1977, she got to go to Hawaii. She was pregnant at the time and wrote a story on the plane about being so happy to meet her new baby. Some of her other favorite places that she went to were San Francisco, Seattle, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, and New York City.
Annette lived a lifetime full of happiness and always put everyone else's needs before her own. Even after she retired from being a teacher she continued to be one. Teaching how to live, how to love, and how to forgive. Like everyone else, she had her great times and her difficult times. Annette would eventually divorce and she would later on marry her longtime friend Howard Leavitt on August 26, 1993. He would remain by her side until she took her final breath. Although she struggled with many health issues, she would never let her declining health define who she is.
Annette leaves behind her husband Howard Leavitt, her sons Travis (Jennifer Hawkes), Trent (Beth Hawkes), and Trevor Hawkes. She leaves behind her grandchildren Treyton, Kensley, Brylon, Robin, Amber and Talia Hawkes as well as Toby, Peyton, and Landon Leckington. She leaves behind her sister Jana Dee Monson and was preceded in death by her brother Kevin Trent Monson as well as her father Melvin Monson and mother Melba Monson.
