Anneliese J. Konkol
Our truly beloved and cherished mother and grandmother passed away gently in the house she loved so much on Monday, February 20, 2012. She was born April 4, 1924 in Germany. She graduated from the Kepich-Overbeck Academy, Berlin with a dual Education/Performing Arts Degree. She met and married Stanley J. Konkol (USAF-retired) in 1955, and upon his retirement the young Konkol family settle among the beautiful mountains and dear friends of Ogden, Utah in 1966.
Anneliese completed her Bachelors Degree in Foreign Languages from Weber State University and her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University. Anneliese retired from her 17 year employment with Weber State Library and devoted the rest of her life to her one true passion, storytelling. As a professional Master Storyteller, she thrilled audiences of 10 to 1000 for more than five decades. Her charming German accent allowed her to captivate groups of all ages and levels, including churches, public libraries, social organizations, non-profit institutions, and schools. Using her Germanic "folk art" method of storytelling allowed Anneliese to captivate all walks of life including children with disabilities, at-risk youth, and the elderly.
Her honors include the Karen J. Ashton Storyteller Award, the Spirit of the American Woman Award, and the Crystal Crest Personality of the Year Award for her "legendary storytelling abilities." Anneliese once said, "Storytelling doesn''t cost anything, it is a gift of prime time"
She is survived by her son Michael, daughter Christine, grandchildren Marissa and Jonathan.
