Anne Marie Newton Barlow

Anne Marie Newton Barlow returned to our Father in Heaven on September 2, 2025, following an extended illness. She was born on April 28, 1948, to Riley Newton and Lois Ivie in Salina, Utah. Her mother would tell her, “You were the most beautiful baby in Salina with dark hair and big brown eyes.” Anne was the second oldest in the family of five siblings who helped start her love of life and adventure. Wayne High School welcomed her as their youngest cheerleader wearing her own purple skirt uniform, with her dad as the coach and a picture in the yearbook. At the Salina City Pool, she won many diving competitions on the famous 4th of July celebration. Her childhood was spent chasing the elusive Annie Bangs throughout the hills of Sevier County. Anne graduated in 1966 from Skyline High School where she was in the Pep Club. She never let go of that role, always cheering and supporting every family member and friend.

At Skyline’s Senior final class party Anne met the love of her life, Garth Barlow. She bet him a quarter she could kiss him on the lips without touching them. Promptly she kissed him on the lips and paid up, claiming that was the best twenty-five cents she’d ever spent. They were married October 13,1967 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. The two were inseparable for nearly 58 years. They built a beautiful family, teaching their children the value of a good day’s work and honest effort, but perhaps she taught her children best by not forgetting to live life to the fullest and see His miracles in the daily details. Her best moments were spent going on adventures, summertime excursions, trips to Lake Powell and Yellowstone, having haunted houses in her basement, carnivals and puppet shows on her back patio as the neighborhood mom. Laughter and smiles would be made in any conversation as she was well known and loved for her quick wit and one-liners. Anne was a natural born storyteller. She would gather her children, grandchildren, and all the kids in the library at Holt Elementary. Using props and costumes with voices, she brought stories to life like her famous, “Alvin Alligator.” It was important to her that she taught her kids to serve others, family, and GOD. She supported three sons on missions. Belief in the Savior carried her through the most challenging points in her life. Holding on to this belief is what sustained her. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints she served in a variety of capacities including girls camp director for many years and as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.

Anne considered her family one of her life’s greatest accomplishments. She is survived by her doting husband, Garth Barlow of Clearfield, Utah. Her four children and their spouses, Jeffrey (Jessica) Barlow of Oviedo, Florida. Jennifer (Todd) Garbett of Montpelier, Idaho. Jeremy Barlow (Gabe Holland) of Los Angeles, California and Kevin (Shantell) Barlow of Holladay, Utah. Together, Garth and Anne have 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with one more arriving by Christmas.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her firstborn baby boy, Gregory.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Clearfield 22nd Ward. 151 North 1000 West, Clearfield UT. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary. 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
