Ann Marie Despain Holmes reunited with her eternal sweetheart, son, and daughter on July 20, 2025, at the age of 77. Ann was born to Parley William Despain and Lola Iris Bahr Despain on August 16, 1947, in Ontario, Oregon.
Ann grew up on a dairy farm in the area known as Sand Hollow in Canyon County, Idaho. She reminisced fondly of her youth and memories with her family on the farm. She attended school and church in Middleton, Idaho. Ann learned from a young age the importance of hard work, a love of music, and a devotion to God. Her sisters often said she was the calming spirit in their lives.
Ann married her eternal companion, Joseph (Joe) William Holmes, on March 16, 1966, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They were blessed with six children.
Ann learned how to play the piano and organ and blessed many with her ability to share her talent of music. She served as ward organist and primary pianist as well as played the organ in the Ogden Temple for many years. She shared her love of music with her children and grandchildren, who loved to listen to her play the piano.
Ann was a talented seamstress and would sew late into the night after the kids were in bed. She used this skill to alter and sew many items for others and used this talent to bless those around her.
Ann served the Lord in many capacities of life. She gained lifelong friends, a strong testimony, and a love of the gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as a strong devotion and love for those around her. She loved getting to know others and often walked away with a new friend.
She was recently released from a Family History Virtual Records mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She attended and served many years in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was extremely proud of her heritage.
Ann loved her family and was an example of strength and patience to them. She often reminded them that she loved them and to “be good!”. She will be missed beyond measure by her family and all who knew her.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Lew) Stoddard, sons, Bill (Kim) Holmes, and Eric Holmes, daughter, Charee (Shawn) McKay; 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandsons, 3 sisters and 1 brother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, son, Tim, and daughter, Jean, as well as her father, mother, and her brother, Al.
