Anika Sophia Mendez Turrubiartez

God answered all of our prayers when he sent our angel, Anika Sophia to us on November 16th, 2024. Anxiously awaiting her arrival, were her mommy, Aliyah, and her daddy, Edgar. We were able to experience heaven on earth with her until she was called home unexpectedly on June 28th, 2025.

Ani didn’t have to do much to win your heart over. All she had to do was look at you with her two-teeth, one dimpled smile and you’d be sold. If she really liked you, you’d know by her excited kicking, along with burying her head into you.

Though she was an active baby, you were easily able to entertain and keep her attention by taking her to a cousin’s sporting event or by letting her watch a UFC or MMA fight. She knew when to cheer for her cousins and made fists when the fighters would. She never wanted to miss anything, so sleep was never something she preferred, unless it was in her mommy’s arms, or during car rides. The minute you’d put the car in park though, you’d better be ready to party again, because she was ready to go, kicking her feet, as soon as you’d open her door, giving you that big beautiful smile. Along with her smile, everyone adored her squishy cheeks, thick thighs and Michelin-Man arms, which she kept in shape by having her many snacks and meals, also one of her favorite pastimes. Her older sister, Aiden, was always the first to volunteer to feed her, while her older brother, Amado, would bring the food and snacks. They were sure to keep their baby well fed. Somehow, though unable to speak yet, she’d always manage to sucker you into letting her try something off of your plate. No one could resist giving that girl exactly what she wanted, and she’d easily get her way by blowing you a kiss and smiling or waving, immediately after she knew she had you wrapped around her finger. Ani girl had such a unique laugh, more of a grunt, but you’d know she was happy because you’d see that beautiful, one dimple of hers, and she’d have you laughing and smiling right along with her. She was a true binky baby and had to have her emotional support binkies everywhere she went. She didn’t always use them, but they were never too far from her reach, just in case she needed something to play with.

Though her time on earth was brief, she made the biggest impact on those who got the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind many broken hearts, including her parents, Edgar and Aliyah, siblings Aiden and Amado, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and so many cousins that will miss spoiling her, making her laugh uncontrollably, and giving her everything she wanted. She brought so much joy and happiness to her entire family and was a true angel on earth.

Among those who get to hold and play with her in heaven are her Grandma Cat, Tia Lupe, and cousins Oliver and Destany.

Private Family Services will be held.

Anika Sophia Mendez Turrubiartez
