Alice Grace Ryan Weil

May 24, 1943 — July 20, 2025

A world without Alice... her daughter said it best, “The silence she leaves behind is louder than anything we could ever say.” On Sunday, July 20, 2025, we lost our dearest one, Alice Grace Weil, following complications from Parkinson’s disease with strong and quiet courage. Alice was born on May 24, 1943, in Manhattan, New York City, to Harold Ryan and Alice Grace (Bordieri) Ryan and was raised and educated in Queens. Alice worked on Wall Street as a ticket taker on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, where she enjoyed the challenge of fast-paced accuracy and thrived in the high-energy atmosphere.

On April 6, 1969, she married her beloved, Erwin William Weil of New York City. Together, they raised four beautiful children: Brent, Kristie, Jeneen, and Heidi.

The World’s Fair came to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York City, in 1964, and was a showcase of optimism and a vision for the future. Shaped by the currents of a world event, it was the beginning of the extended familial path towards the west. Almost a decade later, Erwin and Alice, along with their two oldest children, moved to the mountains of Utah. Although Utah became her cherished home, Alice loved NYC and her affection was unwavering. She loved being a New Yorker so much that she still spoke like a native New Yorker, living in Queens on Ash Avenue and walking the Queensborough Bridge with her best friend — her mother.

While Alice dedicated her time to a variety of administrative and volunteer roles throughout her life, her most remarkable accomplishment was that she made the best use of this time. She paid attention to everything and everyone. Her life ethos can be summed up in the poem “Instructions for Living a Life” by Mary Oliver:

Pay attention
Be astonished
Tell about it

Tell about it, she did! Alice mastered how to laugh and not take herself too seriously. She mastered the art of expressing her unconditional love to each person. This practice of love and appreciation of family informed her everyday life. This also applied to all creatures great and small... For Alice, a complete life and home included her deeply loved dogs.

She was a present and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, always accompanied by faith and God. Alice and Erwin were longtime members of St. James Catholic Church and the Saint Joseph Catholic School system and were actively involved for many years.

Alice was preceded in death by her enduring loves: her husband, Erwin William Weil; her mother, Alice Grace Ryan; and her father, Harold Ryan. With broken hearts, she is survived by her children, Brent (Mikelle) Weil of Huntsville, Kristie (Steve) Schaefer of Derry, New Hampshire, Jeneen (Adam) Murdock of Farmington, Heidi (Jeff) Bowden of Plain City, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many loving extended relatives. Blessed are the Ryan siblings (and their spouses): Alice, Pat (Heward), and Tom, a trio bonded like family units of the past. Theirs was a time-honored kind of dedication and responsibility whose love and admiration for each other was a privilege to witness.

It was recently said: “It’s how you love your family, serve your spouse, how you walk in your relationship with your Creator, and how you meet the needs of others when nobody is watching...” This kind of life found Alice and may this kind of life find everyone.

Here’s to family! Here’s to connections! Here’s to smiles and laughter! Here’s to a life well lived. Truly enjoy your next cup of coffee. Find astonishment in the beauty of a Utah mountain and grab a bagel or cannoli and stand in Times Square once in your life. Love up your dog, rescue a dog, or donate to the Humane Society of Utah. In all, think of Alice.

A Funeral Mass and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th Street, Ogden, Utah 84401. Interment will follow with graveside services at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.

The family is profoundly grateful to the remarkable team at Hidden Valley Assisted Living and Canyon Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care and gentle hearts provided to our ‘Unforgettable in every way, and forevermore, Alice.”
