Alfred Douglas Sandidge

OGDEN a€" Alfred Douglas Sandidge, affectionately known as "Doug" passed away at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living in Ogden on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.

A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, Doug was born August 29, 1924 to Christopher and Ada Sandidge. Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in February of 1943, and later enlisted in the United States Air Force, when the Air Force became a separate service. He served faithfully until April of 1968, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant.

Doug married the former Virginia Lowry Woolridge on August 4, 1948.

He served faithfully his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Clearfield Community Church as a leader, mentor, and friend.

Doug was actively involved in his community, serving on the Ogden City Planning Commission, and as a Davis Hospital volunteer. He was a member of the 28th Military Airlift Squadron Historical Association and actively served as a volunteer at the Hill AFB Museum. Having spent a career as "Load Master", Doug loved the Air Force. His last assignment was on the C-124 Globemaster, affectionately known as "Old Shakey", and was used to transport cargo. Doug''s military stations included Lackland AFB, TX; El Centro, CA; Okinawa, Japan; and Hill Air Force Base, UT.

Doug is survived by his niece, Linda Woolridge, currently living in Richmond, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, in 1965 and his wife, Lowry, in 2003.

Our thanks go to the outstanding doctors, nurses, and therapists who cared for Doug over the last several years at McKay-Dee Hospital and at Mountain Ridge and Country Pines Assisted Living.
