Jack Christensen Pugmire

July 28, 1926 – November 14, 2015

WASHINGTON TERRACE, UTAH – Jack Christensen Pugmire, 89, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 28, 1926, in St. Charles, Idaho, to James Jonathan Pugmire and Ada Lillian Christensen Pugmire.  As one of America’s greatest generation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hoggatt Bay.   After returning home at the end of the war, he found employment at the Union Pacific Railroad where he retired as a Carman after 42 years of service.

He married Margaret Evelyn Hobbs on March 13, 1951, in Ely, Nevada.  Their vows were later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple.  They were happily married for 63 years.   Jack passed away on what would have been Margaret’s 85 birthday.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who always took the time to listen, laugh, and tease.  He was our gentle giant.

He loved doing things outdoors in nature with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, camping, and rafting down rivers.  Our family get-togethers made memories we will always cherish.

He dedicated his life in service to the LDS Church.  Holding both Stake and Ward positions including that of Bishop.  He loved the Lord and was our constant example.  He was a member of the Washington Terrace 6th Ward.

Jack is survived by his four children, Kristine (Keith) Luke of Ivins, Utah; Shirley Yearsley of Ogden; Daniel (Lannis) of Roy; and John (Lisa) Pugmire of Nibley, Utah; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and his older sister, Dona Vallier of Ogden.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Evelyn Hobbs Pugmire; his parents, James Jonathan and Ada Lillian Pugmire, five sisters and four brothers, and daughter-in-law, Diane Pugmire.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 6th Ward, 4760 S 200 E, Washington Terrace, Utah. Friends may visit with family at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah on Friday November 20, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to funeral services.  Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah.
