Andrea Beck

Andrea Catherine Beck, burst on the scene On July 10th, 1980. She was in such a hurry to get busy with life that she barely gave her mom time to get to the hospital for her delivery. She was the only daughter born to Andy and Vicky Beck. She joined her older brother Ben, with 2 younger brothers, Tom and Joey following in the years soon after. In her early years she was known as “Mini”. Our family has nicknames for everyone and everything. Neighbors would tell us that they had met “Mini”, but wondered who Andrea was. That’s how confusing and fun it was. In her teenage years she became known as “Frenchie” to family and friends. Despite being the only girl all three brothers quickly learned that “Frenchie” was in charge and ruled the roost. You didn’t want to mess with her.

She attended elementary school in Bountiful at St. Olaf’s and went to high school in Layton and Ogden. It was a mighty task keeping her in high school. In the front door, and out the back door, she would go. True to her “do it my way” nature she struck out on her own at 18 and moved to Denver Co. where she worked, obtained her GED, and attended Arapahoe JC.

She gave birth to the apple of her eye, best friend, and son, Jackson Joseph Beck on March 7, 2005. They were inseparable throughout her life. They knew everything about each other. Jackson is, and will be, a fine young man because of the way Andrea raised him. As a single mom she knew that she wanted the best for her son, so back to school she went. Andrea juggled college courses, took care of Jackson, worked part time and graduated Cum Laude from Weber State University as a respiratory therapist.

She worked, for over 10 years at McKay- Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT where she was beloved by patients and co-workers alike. She especially enjoyed working in the ER and consoling families of those who were suffering. Her extended family at the Mikado restaurant also found her to be a true friend and joy to be around. As one of her good friends so accurately said, “She was a force outside the laws of gravity. She made you want to be closer to her; you would never forget her, even if you only met her only once”.  Andrea was a rock star without trying simply because she lived her life with genuine authenticity. She had friends from every walk of life. Andrea told it like it was, and treated everyone like she would want to be treated. Andrea had a knack for doing things her way and was certainly no conformist. She was a champion of those less fortunate. It wasn’t uncommon for her to give a stranger money, or buy them a meal.

In 2012 Andrea married Jackson’s dad, Scott Clarke. They were later divorced.

Andrea loved road trips, hiking with her dogs, the simple life, and attending country western concerts in little dusty out of the way towns. From the time she was 2 years old “Mini” loved spending time at the family cabin in Star Valley, WY. As she grew a little older she would spend entire summers in Star Valley with her grandparents. “Mini” would open a “store” at the cabin and make “lots of money” selling books to her Grandpa “Sam”. The irony of it all was that these were books he had already purchased. He was a gullible and smitten customer and she loved it.

Andrea was killed in a tragic auto accident coming home from her beloved WY on April 8th, 2019. A true unique, loving soul has left us all shattered. The world was certainly brightened by her short time here with us.

She is survived by her son Jackson, her parents, and brothers, along with her special friend Bryan Miller. She was preceded in death by her beloved maternal Grandma Carol Nelson and paternal Grandpa ‘Sam”. In her honor hold your family close, take care of someone less fortunate, put a Jamey Johnson song on the juke box, and fly your freak flag. You are an amazing beautiful woman, mother, sister, daughter and we love you more than we ever told you – rest in peace Frenchie!! Your memory lives eternally.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
