Rawland Joseph Christensen, age 82, passed away on September 7, 2017. He was born on October 7, 1934 in Logan, Utah to Horace and Blanche Christensen. He married his sweetheart, Sharon Robinson, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1959 and together they raised their family in Cottonwood Heights. After high school, he and his friends created a “study group”. Over the past 50 years they studied LDS gospel doctrine and enjoyed social gatherings with their families. He cherished his special study group friends.
He served in the LDS Southwest Indian Mission from 1955-57. He then served 7 1/2 years in the Army Reserves. He retired as a millwright at Kennecott Copper Corp. Following his retirement, he and Sharon moved to Washington Terrace, Utah.
He enjoyed sports, BYU football, camping and studying maps which led them on many travel adventures. He loved his family and enjoyed many family gatherings. He deeply cared for and bonded with many family pets.
Rawland enjoyed serving in the baptistry of the Jordan River Temple and Conference Center Service Mission with his wife. The residents of the Legacy House were also beneficiaries of their service.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons Chad (Sheri), Doug (Marilyn) and Gary (Elizabeth), 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Dee Christensen; sister, Blanche Thurgood. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Shanon, brother Thayne Christensen and sister Joann Thunell.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 13th Ward, 4855 S. 300 W., Washington Terrace. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
