Enjoy Today. Plan For Tomorrow.

Lindquist Mortuaries/Cemeteries offers comprehensive prearranged funeral services including insurance funded funeral plans for you and your family members. Although questions about these plans and how they work are numerous, the 10 questions below are the most commonly received at Lindquist’s. The answers are designed to help give you a brief overview. We welcome your additional questions to help guide you in making the best decisions possible for you and your family as you enjoy today, but plan for tomorrow.

1) When should I plan for my funeral?

We believe this is a smart decision for everyone regardless of age. It is our common experience that the unexpected can and does happen and you are never too young to begin thinking about the end of life. We have served individuals and families from their 20s to their 90s who recognize the importance of advanced planning.

2) I don’t know what I want. Can you help me?

By working with a trained and licensed Lindquist’s Family Service Counselor, you’ll be exposed to all of the options and services our comprehensive plans provide. We find that during our informative visits, many services and options become clearer. Decisions are best made with complete information. The more you know, the better able you’ll be to make these critical choices. We want to make these decisions as easy as possible for you.

3) Things can change. Can I adjust my plan?

It’s been said that “there’s nothing as constant as change” and because our life experiences are similar to yours, we’ll be happy to explain the many flexible options available to you including the encouragement to review your plan at least every five years. The more comfortable you are with your decisions, the greater your peace of mind when you consider the burdens that will be lifted from your family.

4) What should I tell my family?

Although it may appear that this will be difficult, we know from our years of experience that your family will appreciate a frank and honest discussion during a family council regarding the decisions you have made. Stronger family relationships can be established with such discussions as confidence grows regarding the sound and valid reasons for your decisions. We at Lindquist’s Mortuaries encourage you to share your decisions with your family. Upon request, we are happy to provide copies of your plans and arrangements with designated family members for their records and safe-keeping.

5) What if I move, is my plan still valid?

Of course. We’ve anticipated the changing world we live in and know that it’s common for people to relocate. All Lindquist’s insurance funded funeral plans are fully transferable and we’ll be happy to assist with any of these details.

6) Why not just invest this money myself? Couldn’t I do better?

Because any money you invest would hopefully earn dividends or interest, you’d be subject to income taxes. However, given the volatility of the market there’s no guarantee any investment would keep up with increasing funeral costs. A pre- arranged funeral plan with Lindquist’s will ensure that there would be enough funds to cover future costs. You will pay no taxes on the increasing death benefit, plus, your family has the secure knowledge that they will make just one phone call to make arrangements on your behalf.

7) I already have life insurance. Why should I buy more?

Most people who pre-plan already have other kinds of life insurance in place. Life insurance is needed to maintain the lifestyle of your loved ones, take care of medical costs, and the daily living expenses of those left behind. A Lindquist’s funeral plan is different, in that it is designed to guarantee funeral costs at today’s prices, and can also allow for additional funds for miscellaneous outside costs such as newspaper obituary notices, flowers, travel, certified copies of death certificates, sales tax, etc.

8) Can arrangements be made now and paid for later?

Yes, you may pre-arrange funeral services and merchandise at any time. Your information will be kept on file by Lindquist’s and readily available upon request.

9) I am a veteran. Won’t my veterans’ benefits cover the costs of my funeral service?

Unfortunately, VA benefits have been drastically reduced over the years. Veterans do receive many burial benefits including military honors, a flag and marker or monument to mark the grave. A burial space and grave liner are provided when the burial takes place in a national VA cemetery. There are also burial options for a spouse or child. Other monetary benefits may be available and determined on a case by case basis. Our Family Service Counselors are experienced with all aspects of veterans’ benefits and will be happy to review this information with you in light of your particular circumstances. State veteran's cemetery benefits vary depending on military involvement. Please contact us for current benefits.

10) What is the cost of an average funeral service?

This is a fair question but very difficult to answer. Funeral costs are determined by many personal choices, such as the type of service, choice of casket, etc. The funeral service industry is highly regulated by the Federal Trade Commission, which requires a copy of our General Price List, detailing our services and products, be made available to anyone who requests it. Our Family Service Counselors are happy to provide you with a General Price List and discuss this question in greater detail.

We hope the answers to these questions are helpful, but realize that you may have questions we have not addressed. Please don’t hesitate to contact a Lindquist’s Family Service Counselor by phone or e-mail with your particular question. We will be happy to discuss your specific concerns.

With pre-arranged, funded plans from Lindquist’s Mortuaries and Cemeteries, your loved ones will be relieved of many decisions and concerns at a time of extreme stress. Your expressed wishes will be followed and the funeral will not be a financial strain on your family.
