John Douglas Yearsley

November 26, 1964 ~ June 14, 2017

Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away in the early morning hours of June 14, 2017 at the age of 52, following a sudden illness.

John was born in Ogden, Utah to Eli Bryson Yearsley and Virginia Wells. He attended Bonneville High School. After high school, John had various jobs, one of which landed him in the foodservice industry. John’s love of cooking soon followed and continued up until his death. John spent the last 20 years in auto sales. He flourished as a salesman and finance manager. He was currently employed at Ed Kenley Ford in Layton. John loved his Ed Kenley Family. John was a master negotiator and practical joker. You always had to look twice when John was around, he was always to up something mischievous.

John had many hobbies. He was an avid collector of coins, guns, and Harley Davison memorabilia. He loved spending summers at Pineview Dam, boating with his family, camping at Monte Cristo, and roaming the D.I. searching for treasures. His current passion was his 2015 Corvette Stingray. John was especially proud of his Corvette. John and his wife were able to spend quality time together driving around town or on small road trips. Always, pedal to the metal.

John’s love of life was large, he lived large and loved large. He was especially proud of his children. They were the light of his life. His love for his children never faltered, he went out of his way to see that they were taken care of, cared for, whether it was cooking a meal, fixing something that was broken or buying treats, he was always there expressing his love to them. He was an outstanding father.

John married Alicia Garner-Downs in 1984, later divorced, from that marriage came his first son, Jeremy. John married Jenny Elmer in September of 1999. John is survived by his wife, Jenny; his sons, Jeremy Yearsley and Dylan Yearsley, and Tyler Yearsley; his daughter, Lindsey Elmer; his mother, Virginia Wells; sister, Nannette Earl; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Eli and brothers, Eric and Kirk.

There was no greater friend than John. His heart was open to all, he loved helping people. He was always available if you needed him, he will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at University of Utah Medical Center who cared for John and helped make him comfortable during his final hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the John Yearsley Memorial Fund at Goldenwest Credit Union, would be greatly appreciated.
